O estado do Rio de Janeiro vai se transformar na capital mundial do surfe a partir da próxima semana, com o Powerade apresenta Quiksilver Pro Saquarema começando na terça-feira na “Cidade do Surf” da Região dos Lagos do Rio de Janeiro.

Ao todo, 96 surfistas de 19 países vão disputar a segunda etapa de 10.000 pontos do World Surf League Qualifying Series 2015 na praia de Itaúna, que é conhecida como Maracanã pela potência das suas ondas. O campeão será definido até o domingo (dia 10) e na segunda-feira já inicia o prazo da etapa brasileira do Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour, o Oi Rio Pro, que vai até 22 de maio na capital do Rio de Janeiro.

O Quiksilver Pro Saquarema será a primeira competição internacional a ser realizada no Brasil depois do título mundial conquistado por Gabriel Medina no ano passado. O limite de 96 participantes foi esgotado rapidamente e mais de trinta surfistas estão na lista de “alternates”, para substituir alguma ausência. A maioria dos concorrentes ao título do QS 10.000 de Saquarema é da Austrália com 24 surfistas, contra 23 do Brasil. Estes dois países dividiram o alto do pódio nos seis anos da história do evento iniciada em 2009. O paulista Wiggolly Dantas igualou este placar no ano passado, conquistando o resultado mais importante da sua classificação para a elite dos top-34 da World Surf League.

Guigui, como é conhecido o surfista de Ubatuba, acabou com uma série de vitórias australianas que durava desde 2011. Kai Otton foi quem encerrou uma hegemonia catarinense nas ondas de Itaúna, construída por Neco Padaratz e Willian Cardoso, que venceram as duas primeiras edições do evento em 2009 e 2010, respectivamente. Depois de Kai Otton, Matt Wilkinson foi o campeão no ano seguinte e Mitch Coleborn repetiu o feito em 2013. O defensor do título, Wiggolly Dantas, é um dos três integrantes da “seleção brasileira” do WCT confirmados no Quiksilver Pro Saquarema apresentado pela Powerade. Os outros são os potiguares Jadson André e Italo Ferreira.

Quase metade da elite dos top-34 do Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour vai desafiar as esquerdas poderosas da Praia de Itaúna, antes de competirem na etapa brasileira do CT que será realizada na semana seguinte ao QS 10000 de Saquarema, de 11 a 22 de maio no Postinho da Barra da Tijuca, na capital do Rio de Janeiro. São dezesseis no total, os três brasileiros, o líder do ranking do WSL Qualifying Series, Kolohe Andino, o também norte-americano Brett Simpson, os australianos Adrian Buchan, Matt Wilkinson, Adam Melling e Matt Banting, os havaianos Sebastian Zietz, Fredrick Patacchia, Keanu Asing e Dusty Payne, o francês Jeremy Flores, o irlandês Glenn Hall e o neozelandês Ricardo Christie.

DEZENOVE PAÍSES – O Quiksilver Pro Saquarema vai promover mais um grande confronto internacional entre competidores de dezenove países. Os 23 brasileiros vão tentar o quarto título verde-amarelo na Praia de Itaúna contra 73 estrangeiros, sendo 24 da Austrália, onze dos Estados Unidos, nove do Havaí, sete de Portugal, quatro da França, dois da Espanha, dois da Argentina, dois do Japão, dois da Nova Zelândia, dois da Costa Rica, com outros oito países comparecendo com um representante cada, Uruguai, África do Sul, Irlanda, Marrocos, Taiti e ilhas Canárias, Guadalupe e Reunião.

Os 96 competidores são divididos em 24 baterias e os dois primeiros colocados em cada avançam para a segunda rodada da competição. Nas etapas do QS 10.000 como a de Saquarema, até os últimos colocados nos confrontos da primeira fase recebem um mínimo de 750 dólares e 550 pontos pela participação, que vão aumentando a cada classificação. O Quiksilver Pro Saquarema oferece a maior premiação do WSL Qualifying Series, 250 mil dólares, com o campeão faturando 40 mil dólares e os 10.000 pontos no ranking que podem ser decisivos na disputa pelas dez vagas para a elite dos top-34 da World Surf League.

Quatro brasileiros fazem parte desta lista após as oito etapas disputadas este ano, o catarinense Alejo Muniz em segundo lugar, o pernambucano Ian Gouveia em quarto, o carioca Pedro Henrique em oitavo e o paulista Deivid Silva na nona e penúltima colocação no G-10 do WSL Qualifying Series. Os outros que estão se classificando pelo ranking de acesso para o WCT são os norte-americanos Kolohe Andino (1.o) e Evan Geiselman (7.o), os australianos Jack Freestone (3.o), Stu Kennedy (6.o), Ryan Callinan (10.o) e o taitiano Mateia Hiquily (5.o). Esta relação poderá chegar a Saquarema bastante modificada, pois nesta semana está acontecendo o primeiro QS 10.000 do ano em Lower Trestles, na Califórnia, Estados Unidos.

São dezesseis no total, os três brasileiros, o líder do ranking do WSL Qualifying Series, Kolohe Andino, o também norte-americano Brett Simpson, os australianos Adrian Buchan, Matt Wilkinson, Adam Melling e Matt Banting, os havaianos Sebastian Zietz, Fredrick Patacchia, Keanu Asing e Dusty Payne, o francês Jeremy Flores, o irlandês Glenn Hall e o neozelandês Ricardo Christie.

DEZENOVE PAÍSES – O Quiksilver Pro Saquarema vai promover mais um grande confronto internacional entre competidores de dezenove países. Os 23 brasileiros vão tentar o quarto título verde-amarelo na Praia de Itaúna contra 73 estrangeiros, sendo 24 da Austrália, onze dos Estados Unidos, nove do Havaí, sete de Portugal, quatro da França, dois da Espanha, dois da Argentina, dois do Japão, dois da Nova Zelândia, dois da Costa Rica, com outros oito países comparecendo com um representante cada, Uruguai, África do Sul, Irlanda, Marrocos, Taiti e ilhas Canárias, Guadalupe e Reunião.

Os 96 competidores são divididos em 24 baterias e os dois primeiros colocados em cada avançam para a segunda rodada da competição. Nas etapas do QS 10.000 como a de Saquarema, até os últimos colocados nos confrontos da primeira fase recebem um mínimo de 750 dólares e 550 pontos pela participação, que vão aumentando a cada classificação. O Quiksilver Pro Saquarema oferece a maior premiação do WSL Qualifying Series, 250 mil dólares, com o campeão faturando 40 mil dólares e os 10.000 pontos no ranking que podem ser decisivos na disputa pelas dez vagas para a elite dos top-34 da World Surf League.

Quatro brasileiros fazem parte desta lista após as oito etapas disputadas este ano, o catarinense Alejo Muniz em segundo lugar, o pernambucano Ian Gouveia em quarto, o carioca Pedro Henrique em oitavo e o paulista Deivid Silva na nona e penúltima colocação no G-10 do WSL Qualifying Series. Os outros que estão se classificando pelo ranking de acesso para o WCT são os norte-americanos Kolohe Andino (1.o) e Evan Geiselman (7.o), os australianos Jack Freestone (3.o), Stu Kennedy (6.o), Ryan Callinan (10.o) e o taitiano Mateia Hiquily (5.o). Esta relação poderá chegar a Saquarema bastante modificada, pois nesta semana está acontecendo o primeiro QS 10.000 do ano em Lower Trestles, na Califórnia, Estados Unidos.

The São Paulo Filipe Toledo used the air to settle their opponents in waves of Lower Trestles and celebrate the third consecutive title in Brazil Qualifying Series steps in San Clemente, California, United States. O paulista Filipe Toledo usou os aéreos para liquidar seus adversários nas ondas de Lower Trestles e festejar o terceiro título consecutivo do Brasil em etapas do Qualifying Series em San Clemente, na Califórnia, Estados Unidos. O evento ficou dois anos sem ser realizado e voltou agora promovendo o primeiro QS 10000 da World Surf League, com Filipe faturando o prêmio máximo de 40 mil dólares derrotando o francês Jeremy Flores na bateria decisiva do sábado por 16,30 a 13,70 pontos. A segunda etapa de 10.000 pontos para o ranking do WSL Qualifying Series é no Brasil, o Quiksilver Pro Saquarema apresentado pela Powerade, que começa terça-feira nas ondas poderosas da Praia de Itaúna, na Cidade do Surf da Região dos Lagos do Rio de Janeiro.

"Eu estava definitivamente muito animado esta semana por poder ficar com meus amigos e minha família aqui em San Clemente", disse Filipe Toledo. "Eu sinto uma energia muito boa quando estou com eles e acho que isso me deixou mais relaxado e tranquilo para poder competir me divertindo, só querendo fazer o meu melhor nas ondas. Eu me senti bem confortável, confiante para fazer as manobras e minhas pranchas também estavam incríveis. Foi tudo maravilhoso".

Esta foi a segunda vitória de Filipe Toledo nos quatro eventos que ele disputou este ano. A primeira foi na etapa de abertura do Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour na Gold Coast, Austrália, quando ele liderou o ranking mundial pela primeira vez. E com os 10.000 pontos recebidos pelo título em San Clemente, ele foi direto para a segunda posição no ranking do WSL Qualifying Series, que passou a ser liderado por Alejo Muniz. O catarinense assumiu a ponta com os 3.700 pontos que ele marcou pelo nono lugar, com a derrota para o havaiano Dusty Payne nas oitavas de final. Filipe atualmente mora na cidade de San Clemente e o Brasil já vinha de um bicampeonato nas últimas etapas do QS disputadas em Trestles, com Miguel Pupo em 2011 e Gabriel Medina em 2012.

Nas ondas de 2-4 pés que rolaram durante esta semana em Lower Trestles, Filipe usou o seu vasto repertório de aéreos acrobáticos para vencer todas as baterias do Oakley Pro Trestles que disputou. No sábado decisivo, começou o dia despachando Charles Martin, da Ilha Guadalupe, nas quartas de final. Depois passou pelo havaiano Dusty Payne e na final ganhou as duas maiores notas das bateria contra o francês Jeremy Flores, 8,30 e 7,83. Ele agora volta a se concentrar somente no Oi Rio Pro, a etapa brasileira da World Surf League que começa em 11 de maio e vai até o dia 22 na Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. Filipe já está escalado para estrear na décima bateria com o também brasileiro Miguel Pupo e o australiano Matt Banting.

"O título mundial é definitivamente o que está na minha mente esse ano e eu não posso esperar para conseguir a camisa amarela (de líder do ranking) de volta", disse Filipe Toledo. "O campeonato no Brasil certamente vai ser incrível, com grande público para apoiar a gente, principalmente depois do título mundial do Gabriel (Medina) no ano passado. Vai ser uma loucura e não vejo a hora que chegue logo o evento, porque é muito bom competir no Brasil, ao lado da nossa torcida".

Filipe preferiu nem participar do Quiksilver Pro Saquarema apresentado pela Powerade para manter o foco somente no Oi Rio Pro. Ao contrário, o vice-campeão do Oakley Lowers Pro, Jeremy Flores, bem como o também integrante da elite dos top-34 da World Surf League, Dusty Payne, que dividiu o terceiro lugar na Califórnia com o australiano Wade Carmichael, vão competir nas ondas da Praia de Itaúna antes da etapa brasileira do CT na capital do Rio de Janeiro. Aliás, quase metade do atual grupo que disputa o título mundial deste ano vai participar do QS 10000 de Saquarema, dezesseis no total.

SEIS MUDANÇAS NO G-10 - Os 10.000 pontos colocados em jogo nestas etapas com status máximo do WSL Qualifying Series são decisivos na briga pelas dez vagas para o seleto grupo dos 34 melhores surfistas do mundo. Na Califórnia, o resultado do Oakley Lowers Pro modificou bastante o ranking, com seis mudanças de nomes no G-10. Os únicos que permaneceram na lista foram o catarinense Alejo Muniz, que vai defender a liderança do ranking no Quiksilver Pro Saquarema, o australiano Jack Freestone, que manteve a terceira posição, o norte-americano Kolohe Andino, que caiu do primeiro para o quarto lugar, e o australiano Stu Kennedy, que permaneceu em sexto.

Os finalistas Filipe Toledo e Jeremy Flores são as primeiras novidades, mas eles já estão entre os top-22 do CT que são mantidos na elite para o ano que vem e dispensam a classificação pelo QS. Os que passaram a figurar no G-10 foram o norte-americano Michael Dunphy em sétimo lugar no ranking, o australiano Wade Carmichael em oitavo, o cearense Michael Rodrigues em nono, o havaiano Dusty Payne em décimo, Charles Martin da ilha Guadalupe em 11.o e o francês Joan Duru em 12.o. Eles tiraram três brasileiros da zona de classificação, o pernambucano Ian Gouveia, o paulista Deivid Silva e o carioca Pedro Henrique, além do australiano Ryan Callinan, o taitiano Mateia Hiquily e o norte-americano Evan Geiselman.

Michael Rodrigues foi o único brasileiro a entrar no G-10 nos Estados Unidos, sem contar o novo vice-líder, Filipe Toledo. O cearense também é especialista em aéreos e as ondas de Lower Trestles estavam formando boas rampas para voar durante toda a semana. Ele também competiu no sábado decisivo do Oakley Lowers Pro e perdeu por pouco para o vice-campeão Jeremy Flores nas oitavas de final que abriram o último dia na Califórnia. O placar terminou em 16,77 a 16,50 pontos, com Michael Rodrigues dividindo o nono lugar com outros dois brasileiros, o paulista Miguel Pupo barrado pelo americano Tanner Gudauskas e o novo líder Alejo Muniz pelo havaiano Dusty Payne.

CAPITAL MUNDIAL DO SURF - Agora o Brasil se transforma na capital mundial do surf com os dois eventos mais importantes do calendário da World Surf League sendo realizados nas próximas semanas no Rio de Janeiro. O primeiro é o QS 10000 Quiksilver Pro Saquarema apresentado pela Powerade, que começa na terça-feira e vai até domingo no Maracanã do Surf, como é conhecida a Praia de Itaúna pela potência das suas ondas. Depois, o Oi Rio Pro com os melhores surfistas do mundo disputando o quarto desafio do Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Championship Tour entre os dias 11 e 22 de maio na Barra da Tijuca. O palco principal é nas ondas do Postinho e uma estrutura alternativa estará instalada no Meio da Barra, próximo ao Posto 6, para ser utilizada se as ondas estiverem melhores.
